Xiaomi Unveiled 12nm chipset Powered Redmi 6/6A In China

Running high on the success of Redmi Note 5, Redmi Note 5 Pro, and the Redmi Note 5 Plus, Xiaomi has announced the launch of its latest budget smartphones - Redmi 6 and Redmi 6A. In an event in China, Xiaomi introduced the 12nm chipset Powered devices that promises to consume 48% less power than comparable to 28nm chips.

Earlier, Xiaomi was expected to launch the Redmi 6, Redmi 6A and Redmi 6 Plus but only the two of its model saw the light. The new model will be succeeding Redmi 5, which was well appreciated by the users and we expect the same from Redmi 6. The core of Redmi 6 is packed with MediaTek’s latest octa-core Helio P22 SoC processor and its more affordable variant, the Redmi 6A with MediaTek’s octa-core Helio A22 SoC.

Chinese electronics giant has included top of the line feature in its new smartphones, such as Face Unlock, an 18:9 display, a horizontal dual camera setup, and a rear-mounted fingerprint sensor. The trend of Face Unlock is right into the race with the debut of iPhone X Face ID feature.

With Redmi 6/6A, Xiaomi has focused more on its AI (Artificial Intelligence). As per the company’s statement, the new smartphone claims to have AI-based capabilities powering its camera, Face Unlock sensor, and the Xiao Ai assistant. The AI voice assistant is integrated directly into the camera to recognize various things like plants, vehicles, as well as items for price comparison.

Redmi 6/6A will run on MIUI 9 on top of Android 8.1. In terms of screen, the smartphone will have a 5.45-inch HD+ display with an 18:9 aspect ratio and an 80.7 percent screen-to-body ratio. The primary camera of the device is horizontally stacked and has a 12-megapixel primary and a 5-megapixel secondary sensor. While the front camera with the f/2.2 aperture has a 5-megapixel sensor.

In the connectivity front, Redmi 6/6A has 4G LTE, Bluetooth 4.2, a 3.5mm headphone jack, Wi-Fi, GPS/ A-GPS, and Micro-USB. The device has sensors like accelerometer, digital compass, gyroscope, proximity, and ambient light sensor. Redmi 6/6A is powered by a 3000mAh battery that can last a full day.

The price of Redmi 6 in China is set at $125 (¥799) for the 3GB RAM/ 32GB inbuilt storage model, and the other variant that has 4GB of RAM and 64GB storage is priced at $95 (¥599). The smartphone will be publically available in the next couple of days.
