As we have already told you the Red makes the cameras to film the super fancy movies of this time. ‘The Guardian of Galaxy’, ‘Transformers’ and The Martian are among the movies shot on Red cameras. Along with this the Netflix super cool TV series like ‘MR. Robot’ also uses the cameras from the same company.
With the Red Hydrogen One, the company will be entering into the smartphone industry to offer a future technology. Red claims the phone has the holographic display that supports the 4 View content without the need of 3D glasses. Moreover, it allows you to look behind and around the object it displaying.
The images shared by RED shows a phone having the conventional design language with some not so usual tweaks. With 5.7-inch screen, Red Hydrogen One has a bigger panel with 9mm thickness and the camera is located at the back. The phone most commonly looks rugged for the users to capture the shots at different locations without worrying about the phone much. However, we aren't sure about the plastics or metal is used to manufacture the phone but considering the price we expect the material to be premium. At the back, there is a huge camera that what Red is talking about since 2017. The camera looks elevated as it is different from the normal cameras. At the bottom of the phone, you will see a 3.5mm jack USB-C type charging port and a pogo pin connector which could be for connecting modular devices like some camera modules that company teases earlier. However, we didn't find any fingerprint sensors on either side of the phone.
Red was kept promoting the display of the phone and that is what worth half of the price of the entire phone. The 5.7-inch display is expected to come with 2560*1440p resolution. In addition, the display is composed of retina riveting capability and features the Nanotechnology that enabled it to switch between the 4V(holographic), 3D and 2D content. The display is specially built to deliver the holographic content that no one has experienced outside Red. Company’s CEO has said the employee's reaction was outstanding and you will get to know what we are keeping the secret.
For now, we don't know what type of display Red going to give in Red Hydrogen One. However, the phone is a flagship and high-end device so we expect nothing less than an OLED display.
The phone’s camera is as important as its display because of the support for the holographic recording. According to Red, the camera will be able to seamlessly capture in 2D, 3D, and H4V with interchangeable lenses. This will make the Red Hydrogen One smartphone one of its kind to have such camera power. There is no phone available in the market offering such powerful camera sensor. However, we don't know how it will work exactly, so we need to wait till it arrives. There is no exact information about the sensors like Megapixels and aperture as the camera is way different from what we are using nowadays. It is also confirmed that the Red Hydrogen One will have the front camera too but we don't know its specifications yet
Red hasn't officially disclosed about the upcoming smartphone's battery but the CEO has already spilt some beans. He announced that the Red Hydrogen One will have massive 4,500 mAH battery, which is among the largest available in the market.
Red first announced its intention to launch the phone with holographic display in 2017. Hydrogen One was scheduled by Red to launch in the first quarter of 2018 but unfortunately, it didn't arrive. On May 1, the company’s founder, Jim Jannard announced that the phone again got postponed until August. According to the information on the company’s website, the Red Hydrogen One aluminum variant will cost $1,195 and the Titanium variant will be coming at $1,595.
