WhatsApp, the popular chatting app keeps pushing new and attracting features for last two year. Over the period of time, the app has evolved more than just a chatting app. The company added media sharing option, voice and video calling feature and Instagram like stories last year. These additions helped the messaging app to enrich the
user database which has resulted in a whopping 1.3 billion monthly and 1 billion daily active users on the platform. However, the company is still testing some new features that may hit the app in the coming time.
Currently WhatsApp offers both voice and video calling within the app. However, you can't switch between these two options. You need to cancel a voice call and make a video call if you feel the need for a video call during an ongoing voice call. But, the company is testing Switch button that will turn the ongoing voice call into a video call without disconnecting the call. The option is still in the WhatsApp beta and expected to come out for all the users officially really soon.
While talking about the video and voice calling other limitation that WhatsApp holds is not having an option for group calling. The app only allows chatting with the groups, it does not support voice or video calling for the group chats. But, Wabetainfo spotted the feature for group video and voice calling in the WhatsApp beta version 2.18.39. In this version, there are video and call buttons right next to contacts added to the group. The users are allowed to add multiple members to the video and voice call in the group.
Other upcoming feature of WhatsApp that was spotted in the beta version 2.18.54 is the description for groups. The new feature allows the users to add ‘about us’ information to the groups. The added description will be visible to all the users and can be edited by all the members of the groups. However, only the admin holds the power to restrict any of the user from modifying the added description.
This upcoming feature is the result of successful integration of Instagram stories to Facebook. Now, the social media giant is planning to add the cross-platform story feature to WhatsApp also. This will enable the user to directly post their WhatsApp story via Instagram.
WhatsApp keeps working on enhancing the user chat experience in the app by adding more content. Now, the company is testing Facebook-like stickers in the app that enables the users to send more interactive gestures. Recently added GIF options were also appreciated by the users, so the company is bringing more pictorial options to the platform. The option is available right beside the GIF option in the beta version of WhatsApp for now.
