Snapchat is expanding its on-demand geofilters to Europe
With the latest Snapchat features users in selected European countries can create customized Geofilter using their smartphones as Snapchat is enrolling the update.
Prior to the update, the users have the desktop-based web-tool only option to create a geofilter. Now with the update, users will be able to create a Geofilter directly through the mobile app. The feature that was available for U.S. alone can now be assessed by users from UK, the Netherlands, France, Denmark, Norway, Sweden, and Finland
Geofilters are the overlays used by the Snapchatters to share ‘where and when’ information with their snap via text and images.
The newly added feature can accessed by going to setting in the app then clicking on the on-demand geofilter option. The filters can be customized for the special events like wedding, birthday, parties and much more. Once the desired overlays are implemented using the templates, the created geofilter will be sent for the approval to Snapchat. The users need to pay for the on-demand geofilter, the prices for the filters starts with £5.99 in the UK and €6.99 in France and Sweden and can vary in accordance with location, time duration, and demand of the filter.
The on-demand geofilters can cover any location between 1,800 square meters to 450,000 square meters. After getting approval from Snapchat in usually one business day, users get an access to a dashboard where you can check the total swipes, views, and number of users of your geofilters by others.
Geofilter feature comprised the 8% of the total Snapchat’s ad revenue in 2016, so coming up with the on-demand feature is a part of a monetization strategy of the company. Recently a winter- walker filter from HBO created a buzz among the Game of Thrones fans which was added by the channel to promote season 7 of the series. In Spite of decreasing figures of the snapchat in terms of revenue and users, the platorm continues to holds a reputation among the top social networking sites.
