Currently, Twitter has paused the blue tick verification process until the system gets back on track. The system was added by Twitter to make sure that the accounts of public figures should have a proof of originality. Twitter replied that the system is similar to the badges given by Facebook and Instagram to prevent imposters to act as some else using a fake account. The verifications process of twitter involves filling up a form by the account holder which requires details like email address, phone number, website link (for brands and businesses) and a biography to know the “ area of expertise and/or a company mission.”
“We should have communicated faster on this: our agents have been following our verification policy correctly, but we realized some time ago the system is broken and needs to be reconsidered. And we failed by not doing anything about it. Working now to fix faster” said Jack Dorsey, CEO of Twitter.
