The system was added by Twitter to make sure that the accounts of public figures should have a proof of originality. Twitter replied that the system is similar to the badges given by Facebook and Instagram to prevent imposters to act as some else using a fake account. The verifications process of twitter involves filling up a form by the account holder which requires details like email address, phone number, website link (for brands and businesses) and a biography to know the &ldquo; area of expertise and/or a company mission.&rdquo;&ldquo;We should have communicated faster on this: our agents have been following our verification policy correctly, but we realized some time ago the system is broken and needs to be reconsidered.
